The Full Story

About Jean Cornwell Wheat

She is a painter, sculptor, and multi-media artist as well as a professor of art history for over two decades. She is very passionate about bringing out the inner artist in others. In addition to teaching and volunteer work, over the years she has done dozens of commissions, many exhibitions, and public art such as murals and sculptures.

Born in the Black capital of the world, Harlem, she was bombarded with sights and sounds that only this unique neighborhood could provide. She felt she had it all and was quite aware that she was living in a live art gallery.

"It is now 2021 and my hair is gray, my steps are a little slower and I can’t find my glasses from one minute to another.  I have lived in California since 1966 — married twice, mothered three beautiful daughters, and am a grandmother and great-grandmother."
