Artist Spotlight

I am a painter, sculptor, and multi-media artist as well as a professor of art history for over two decades. I am very passionate about bringing out the inner artist in others. In addition to teaching and volunteer work, over the years I’ve done dozens of commissions, many exhibitions, and public art such as murals and sculptures.
Born in the Black capital of the world, Harlem, I was bombarded with sights and sounds that only this unique neighborhood could provide. I felt I had it all and was quite aware that I was living in a live art gallery.
It is now 2021 and my hair is gray, my steps are a little slower and I can’t find my glasses from one minute to another. I have lived in California since 1966 — married twice, mothered three beautiful daughters, and am a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Out of The Fire Exhibition
"OUT OF THE FIRE" series of paintings evolved from my idea of regeneration and rebirth. As the mythological phoenix, africans and african americans have survived with strength and revitalization. We have been reborn over and over again baptized by fire like the indestructible phoenix.
